Metropolitan International University (MIU) is a private University in Uganda founded in 2016 and licensed by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) to do teaching, research and community engagement.

MIU offers experiential and outstanding learning and teaching for 21st Century students through an enriched learning experience that blends face to face and virtual learning.

Metropolitan International University (MIU) was first incorporated in the Republic of Uganda under the Companies Act (CAP.110) as a company limited by shares on 30th November 2015.

The National Council for Higher Education at its 28th meeting held on 11th November 2016 granted a University Licence, No. UIPL022, to UMetropolitan International University to operate as a University in the Republic of Uganda.MIU was gazetted in Gazette Vol. CVI No. 14 of 22nd March 2016, Legal Notice No. 4 of 2016.

Not yet. However, with now four years in existence, the University management is working on the requirements needed to acquire the charter.

On 30th November 2016, Metropolitan International University was licensed and accredited by the National Council for Higher Education to operate as a University in the Republic of Uganda. MIUwas gazetted in Gazette Vol. CVI No. 14 of 22nd March 2016, Legal Notice No. 4 of 2016.

Yes. All programmes offered at MIU are accredited and recognized by the Uganda National Council of Higher of Education. And so, all degrees awarded at MIU are recognized in other countries a Ugandan degree.

Currently, MIU offers 40 academic programmes under three faculties and one school namely; Faculty of Science & Technology, Faculty of Business Administration and Management Sciences, Faculty of Education & Humanities and School of Postgraduate and Research Studies.

At present, MIU has a student population of more than 2000 students distributed under different programmes.

Several distance education programs are available. In addition to the programs listed in our catalogue, MIU offers a variety of open learning opportunities, including online courses and modules. A full list of online courses and other forms of digital learning from across MIU is available.

We welcome applications from all over the world.  Our admissions and financial aid processes are the same for all applicants – regardless of nationality or citizenship

The application requirements are the same for all international applicants.  All first-year candidates are taken through the flesher orientation guidelines.

Undergraduate programs follow high school and lead to a bachelor (three-year) degree or (four-year) degree. Graduate programs follow a bachelor’s degree and lead to a master’s or doctoral degree.

Essentially there is no difference.

Distance education occurs when a student and an instructor are in different places. Learning occurs by mail, telephone, internet, or by other means.

We give half tuition fees bursary to any Ugandan student who qualifies for admission and has been recommended by their home District LC 5 Chairperson/ Member of parliament. Essentially under this program, the University pays half of your tuition throughout your course of study.

Metropolitan International University admits 3 times in a year; in December/January, March/April and August/September.

Step 1: Pick-up an application form from the Admissions office at any of our Campuses below:

  • Admission office at Main Campus in Kisoro, Uganda.
  • Kampala Campus in Namungoona
  • Alternatively, download an application form from MIU website: Download it Here which can be filled and sent to admissions@miu.ac.ug

NOTE: Click on the link to complete the online application: https://miu.ac.ug/apply-online  (a scanned copy of the admission letter will be sent to your email, and once the application has been approved, the original copy will be collected from our Kampala campus in Namungoona (Admissions Office-Online Desk)

The application fee is 50,000Ug.shs for both Ugandans and International students (non-Ugandans). For online applicants, the application fee is paid to the Finance Office when you report collecting the original admission.

Step 2: Complete the application forms clearly and enclose or attach the following:

  • 3 photocopies of each ‘O’ and ‘A’ Level Secondary school result slips or equivalent [Diploma and Bachelor Degree] and three certified copies of transcripts of Bachelor and Master Degrees [postgraduate degrees].
  • A photocopy of a receipt for payment for the application form.
  • 3 recent passport size photographs.
  • Photocopies of Birth Certificate/ National ID/ Passport

Step 3: Submit a fully completed form with the required attachments to the following addresses:

  • By physical submission – kindly return form and attachments to the Admission office.
