PRE – UNIVERSITY FOUNDATION PROGRAMME
The Foundation programme is intended to be an intensive programme intended for students who have successfully completed the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) or its equivalent but who may not have attained sufficient grades to enroll for Diplomas or Degree programmes.
Rationale of the Programme
The programme is also intended for students from countries whose secondary school qualifications are not considered equivalent to UACE but permit admission into Higher Education in those countries.
The programme is carefully designed to provide study and learning support skills needed for academic life and academic knowledge needed for further higher education. The knowledge shall emphasize general principles and application.
To prepare students for further education
To prepare students for entrance into undergraduate degree/diploma programmes and thereby:
Introduce students to the culture of higher education and university life.
Provide a structured framework to support students to become self-directed learners in acquiring a range of transferable skills for undergraduate study.
To provide the opportunity to develop leadership, team working and supervisory skills in order to work effectively in the setting of a contemporary multidisciplinary team and to begin to make independent decisions with appropriate support
To provide each foundation student with a variety of workplace experience during their foundation programme in order to best inform career choice.
By the end of the course, students will be expected to be able to:
Produce written work which is well-organised, relevant and makes use of appropriate terminology and academic style.
Students will demonstrate the ability to define, identify, and evaluate ethical versus unethical academic practices.
To be comfortable with an iterative creative process, as well as presenting work for, and participating in, individual and group Critiques.
To exercise leadership and have a sense of responsibility as citizens of their respective countries
To apply Common Sense in their behavior and decision making.
