Metropolitan International University (MIU) exists for three main reasons: Coaching the existing knowledge (teaching), Creating new knowledge (research), and Participating in community service (outreach). MIU engages in teaching, research and knowledge transfer. The University envisages excellence in knowledge-based education and strives to be among the best 10 universities in Africa.

Therefore, the School of Graduate Studies, Research & Innovation, being core activities of the University, takes the center-stage in the realization of this goal. As part of its implementation strategies and to realize the stated goals, the University ensures proper functioning of the School.

Objectives

The School of Graduate Studies & Research is established to:

  1. Offer programmes of study and advanced degrees for students who wish to further their academic and professional education.
  2. Provide an opportunity for non-degree and degree seeking students to increase academic and professional competencies through accessible, innovative learning practices.
  3. Teach advanced skills in such areas as problem-solving, writing, oral presentation, and technology, each as applied to the particular field of study.
  4. Provide students with more advanced learning in a specialized discipline or sub-discipline.
  5. Give an in-depth understanding such that the student becomes something of an expert in the topic of study.
  6. Master the skills, methods and knowledge appropriate to the discipline.
  7. Synthesize knowledge using interdisciplinary approaches and acquire the tools to continue professional development and life-long learning.
  8. Negotiate research and research related agreements in ways that facilitate investment, collaboration and mutual benefit.
  9. Promote a greater awareness among researchers and provide advice on effective intellectual property protection, management, and exploitation.
  10. Promote compliance with the policies and procedures established by the University human research ethics, animal experimentation ethics and biohazards committees through high quality information, education and advice to committee members, staff and research students, and effective program administration.
  11. Provide high quality data and reports on research performance to academic leaders to assist internal planning, benchmarking and academic management.
  12. Coordinate external reporting on research performance, and prepare data for the research and research training management reports.
  13. Support the continuous improvement of research-related policy and procedures.
  14. Coordinate and manage research, scholarly and community projects. 
  15. Promote and engage in collaborative research both at the local, regional and international levels.
