WELCOME TO SCHOOL OF LAW

Counsel Tumwine George
Dean School of Law
The School of Law at Metropolitan International University is a distinguished academic division dedicated to the pursuit of justice, legal scholarship, and professional excellence. As a vibrant and forward-looking center of legal education, we are committed to nurturing ethical, skilled, and socially responsible legal practitioners who will contribute meaningfully to justice systems in Uganda, the East African region, and beyond.
Our academic philosophy is anchored in combining rigorous theoretical instruction with practical experience. Through an interdisciplinary and problem-solving approach, our programs expose students to the foundations and complexities of the law, including areas such as constitutional law, human rights, criminal justice, international law, legal ethics, and commercial law. Our graduates are equipped not just to interpret the law, but to shape it.
At MIU’s School of Law, students benefit from close mentorship by a faculty of seasoned legal professionals, academics, and policy experts—many of whom bring real-world experience from the bench, the bar, and international legal institutions. Beyond the lecture hall, students are actively engaged in moot court competitions, community legal aid clinics, legal writing workshops, and policy dialogues that prepare them for success in both litigation and legal advisory roles.
The School of Law offers the following academic programs:
-
Bachelor of Laws (LLB)
A foundational four-year degree program that prepares students for a wide range of legal careers and is a qualifying degree for those seeking to enter the legal profession. -
Diploma in Laws (DL)
A two-year program designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of legal studies. It is ideal for those seeking a foundational qualification in law, with practical relevance in administrative, paralegal, and community justice settings. -
Certificate in Administrative Law
A short-term program focused on the principles and procedures of administrative justice, governance, and regulatory frameworks. It is tailored for aspiring administrators, civil servants, and individuals working within government and institutional environments.
Our academic community is diverse and inclusive, drawing students from across Uganda and neighboring countries who share a common goal of advancing justice and upholding the rule of law. Our alumni are found in courts, government ministries, corporate legal departments, international organizations, and advocacy groups—playing critical roles in shaping public policy, defending rights, and resolving disputes.
We take pride in recognizing and rewarding academic excellence. Outstanding students may benefit from a variety of scholarship opportunities offered through partnerships with legal foundations, international organizations, and corporate sponsors committed to building the next generation of legal leaders.
As Dean of the School of Law, it is both a privilege and a pleasure to welcome you. Whether your aspiration is to become an advocate, judge, legal advisor, legislator, or scholar, our programs are designed to provide a transformative legal education that prepares you to lead with wisdom, courage, and integrity.
