The Office of the Dean of Students is established under section 37 of the Universities and Other Tertiary Institution Act. The Office bearer is appointed by the University Council on the recommendation of the Appointments Board on the terms and conditions that the University Council may determine.

The Dean of Students shall be responsible for the welfare of the students and shall be responsible to the Vice-Chancellor.

Leadership:

The office of Dean of Students is managed by Mr. Adepo Francis who was appointed to this Office on 17th May, 2021 by the University Council.

Prior to his appointment as Dean of Students Metropolitan International University, Francis had been a Guild President for two consecutive terms in the same University. He had also served as a Guild Finance Minister at KIU, and also Chairperson Guild Disciplinary committee of MIU 2018-2020, Chairperson Organizing committee and Consular of International Students in Uganda National Students Association-UNSA.

Adepo Francis is a passionate administrator, leader and motivation speaker. He is a former Member of Parliament aspirant for Bugabula North constituency in Kamuli Distriict, Eastern part of Uganda in 2021 General Elections. He is a serving Secretary General of Uganda Solidarity Movement with Western Sahara (the Africa’s last colony)

Adepo started working with Metropolitan International University  since March 2021 after being retained on merit  of first Class Degree and his exceptional leadership skills exhibited as a  Guild  President. He is assistant Lecturer in the Faculty of Education and Humanities

Duties & Responsibilities

The Dean of Students maintains students’ discipline and oversees the general management of student affairs in accordance with the law, University Policies and Regulations.

The officer is charged with the direct supervision and control of the halls of residence  and all matters related to accommodation, feeding and sanitation for both residents and non-residents.

Directs matters related to the operations of the students Guild, coordinates and guides the activities of students Associations, Students Leadership and Career Development events.

The officer further, directs the organization and management of Students Sports, Games and Recreational activities and provides Administrative Secretariat support services to committees managing student affairs.

He manages the Students’ Information Services in line with the University’s Communication Strategy.

The Dean of Students, work hand in hand with the University Secretary, Vice Chancellor and University Bursar for the smooth provision of welfare services to students.

The Dean of Students oversees the works of the Counselling Unit, Sports, Games and Recreational Unit, the Halls and Health Unit (Sickbay) for the wellbeing of students.

Assess students’ body needs and responds to any questions and concerns from the students body in an effective and timely manner

Manage, supervises all the students guild activities, develop and implement/approve guild work plans, Budgets to suit the policies and goals of the university.

Conduct consistent guild evaluations to determine how efficient the students guild in all MIU campuses are running and , if necessary, recommend ideas of improvement and many others.
